Designing the Client Portal for YakShaver.ai (MVP in Progress)
YakShaver.ai is an internal AI-powered tool that helps teams capture bugs, create PBIs, and delegate tasks—without breaking their flow. Our goal: design an intuitive, scalable MVP portal that helps clients actually manage it.

Challenge
YakShaver started as a behind-the-scenes power tool. Now, it needed to become a polished, client-facing product. The challenge was to:
Make it easy for orgs to adopt without friction
Give admins visibility into usage and control over configuration
Design for now (MVP) without boxing in the future roadmap
Results
Co-designed the client portal MVP from scratch
Defined core flows for onboarding, dashboard, integrations, and recordings
Collaborated across product, dev, and AI teams to balance scope and usability
Built the foundation for a scalable system and design language
Process
Roadmapping & Feature Planning
Partnered with the Product Owner to define MVP vs v2+
Prioritised core features: dashboard, onboarding, integrations, recording
Created journey maps and phased release plans grounded in user goals
Admin Dashboard & Insights
Designed a dashboard for tracking team adoption, usage, and drop-off
Surfaced AI-generated outputs with summaries and easy-to-scan visuals
Prioritised simplicity — charts and insights made for non-technical admins
Setup & Onboarding
Created a guided onboarding experience that felt effortless
Designed setup panels for API keys, user access, repo connections, and workflow settings
Focused on clarity, minimal jargon, and front-end that wouldn’t require hand-holding
Integrations UX
Designed connection flows for GitHub, Jira, and Azure DevOps
Considered sync status, fallback states, and error edge cases
Worked closely with devs to align frontend UX with backend logic
Recording & Context Features
Designed a simple workflow for users to record tasks and submit context
Enabled admins to review and verify AI-generated PBIs with minimal effort
Focused on speed — record, submit, done
My Role
As one of two UX designers on the project, I helped shape the product’s structure, design patterns, and rollout plan:
Product partner — worked directly with the PO to scope what matters now
Dev-aware designer — aligned designs with real backend logic
System builder — helped build reusable patterns and UI logic for future features
Conclusion
This project is still in motion — but the structure is set, the priorities are clear, and the MVP is actively being built. I helped bring clarity to the messiest phase of product design: figuring out what’s essential now, what can wait, and how it all fits together.
